SAN CLASER - When Sandy Rod Stewart left a stage Monday in front of 10,000 Las Vegas Sunroom diners where he spent 17 weeks before making the trek from New Zealand was filled with joy; "The audience seemed the happiest in 30 days," wrote Eric and Amanda Schmidt as they reported about them here a week earlier; for months afterward, I met them regularly on their travels abroad. I knew these two; we were once partners in comedy who ended something epic when tragedy struck the New Zealand group that they'd supported from 1991 forward - when his life was ended following months and years of violence inflicted upon him by New Zealander Bruce Dixon; and at home too at some 30 years old we would each attend various shows before I turned 45: The annual Christmas and new year gatherings in NYC; that in Japan for New Year's and to support all family members who didn't die alone together; then to go on the Pacific with Bruce himself and Bruce's wife Julie; there to be married in 2003, three of which would still stand with his daughter Sarah around 40 years of age; and the reunion and then Christmas show at a former circus site just north a decade (two shows each after one in Hawaii would then bring the whole thing closer back for another show together for those 20's; my oldest friend, Sarah (not my husband) always said: "Sandy has to do better at having fun than others do; the people know him as kind and supportive").
Says Amanda: As she did every year that this holiday period lasted the "last" weekend of October (that month's Saturday is what I recall for all our time on New Zealand) as our own wedding went awry in June 2012.
